Shippingtelegraph.com: Norden locks in seven vessel leases with purchase options

by Shipping Telegraph

Denmark’s Norden, a shipping company known for its ocean-based freight services for liquid, bulk and project cargo of all sizes, is entering into new lease deals with purchase options for six multipurpose vessels and a handysize.

The latest deals include six new multipurpose (MPP) vessel leases with purchase options – four newbuildings for delivery in 2027 and 2028 and two secondhand vessels currently trading in Norden’s fleet.

This move is part of the company’s strategy to grow its presence in the project cargo market.

In addition to the new multipurpose vessel leases, Norden has signed a new handysize lease agreement with a purchase option for a newbuilding with scheduled delivery in 2026.

The Copenhagen-listed company said it is making a further move to ensure it stays positioned for “future upside potential” in parallel with its strategy to “realise asset values.”

So far in 2025, the company has entered into 18 new lease agreements with purchase options.

“These new leases highlight our continued focus on strengthening our position and building a core fleet to service our customers in the multi-purpose segment, which benefits from favourable supply fundamentals with a rapidly ageing fleet and low orderbook, coupled with a strong projected demand outlook,” the company said in a statement.

Last month, the company said that it sold two additional vessels, one supramax bulk carrier and one MR tanker for an undisclosed sum. No further details have been disclosed about the name of the vessels.

As it is reported, the supramax vessel is a recently declared purchase option which subsequently has been sold.
