Seatrade Maritime: Evergreen takes Inmarsat’s multi-network NexusWave fleetwide

Inmarsat announced it has agreed a fleetwide rollout of its NexusWave connectivity service with container line Evergreen.

Adoption of the technology follows successful trials, Inmarsat said, and will accelerate the Taiwanese shipping line’s Evergreen IT modernisation programme.

Announced in 2024, NexusWave is Inmarsat’s high-speed, bonded connectivity service, which utilises multiple networks including Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, L-band for resiliency, coastal LTE services when available, Inmarsat’s first offering of LEO services, and ViaSat-3, the new ultra-high-capacity satellite network from parent company Viasat.

The companies said the deployment would enhance crew welfare, strengthen cybersecurity, and provide seamless, high-performance connectivity for Evergreen’s vessels and seafarers.

The rollout is an upgrade from Evergreen’s use of Fleet Xpress, and will bring unlimited data and always-on connectivity to its fleet.

Evergreen Marine said: “Evergreen’s fleetwide adoption of Inmarsat NexusWave reflects our commitment to the welfare of our seafarers and operational excellence, while also providing the platform to continue innovating for customers. We are confident that NexusWave, as a bonded, scalable, and secure connectivity solution, will support the digitalisation and future growth of our fleet.”

Gert-Jan Panken, vice president maritime, Viasat, said: “Evergreen is setting a clear standard for modern, data-driven shipping. By moving to NexusWave fleetwide, the company gains a single, managed connectivity solution for crew and vessel operations, backed by global coverage and secure infrastructure. We are proud to deepen our partnership and provide a platform that scales with Evergreen’s ambitions today and well into the future.”
