In preparation for Hurricane Matthew, the South Carolina Ports Authority is altering its operating schedule to assist customers with delivery of cargo on terminals, while also limiting exposure of cargo on terminals to any damage. This update replaces previous versions.
Wando Welch & North Charleston Terminals
Tuesday, October 4:
- Extended Gate Hours until 8 PM for dry boxes. Normal operating hours for reefer, 4:30 PM cut.
- No other restrictions on cargo or containers entering or leaving.
Wednesday, October 5:
- We will not receive any EXPORT refrigerated cargo loads.
- We will continue to deliver IMPORT refrigerated cargo and empty reefers during normal hours.
- After 12 PM, we will no longer accept or deliver EMPTY containers.
- After 12 PM, we will no longer accept hazardous cargo.
- We will continue to process IMPORT and EXPORT missions until 6 PM.
Thursday, October 6 – Saturday, October 8:
- Gates will be CLOSED and no containers will be interchanged.
- Monday, October 10 – planned return to normal hours.

Columbus Street & Union Pier Terminals
- Wednesday, October 5 – Regular schedule.
- Thursday, October 6 – *Pending traffic conditions, close at 12 PM.
- Friday, October 7 – CLOSED.
- Monday, October 10 – Regular Schedule.

- *Thursday 12 PM close is dependent on trucks being able to safely get to terminal.
Georgetown Terminal
- Wednesday, October 5 – Normal hours.
- Thursday, October 6 – Normal hours.

Inland Port Greer
- Inland Port Greer will remain open for normal operations.
- Empty container operations will continue weather/safety permitting.
- The Norfolk Southern trains to and from Charleston will be running weather permitting.
