Cargo Care Solutions has launched a software tool aimed at helping containership owners identify where existing lashing and securing arrangements are limiting usable box capacity.

The new CSA Software analyses the vessel’s container securing system as a whole rather than assessing individual pieces of equipment separately.

It takes into account hatch covers, lashing bridges, securing equipment, lashing configurations and the vessel’s operational limits before modelling alternative arrangements.

Cargo Care is targeting both newbuildings and existing ships.

For new vessels, the software can be used during the design phase to match securing arrangements with intended capacity, trading patterns and compliance requirements.

For retrofits, the tool can combine vessel data with onboard inspections to identify blocked container positions, unused fittings or configurations that are restricting capacity.

The resulting analysis can then be used to assess whether changes to lashing arrangements or structural upgrades would allow additional containers to be carried safely.

Cargo Care said calculations that would previously require considerably more engineering work can be produced within minutes.

“Owners and operators are under pressure to make every container slot count, but capacity only has value if the securing arrangement can support it safely and reliably,” said chief executive Peter Peltenburg.

The Netherlands-based company specialises in cargo access and securing equipment and provides lashing system engineering, equipment, inspections and retrofit work throughout a vessel’s operating life.

Cargo Care said the new software builds on more than 40 years of experience in container securing and lashing systems.
