Seatrade Maritime: China Zhongyun International partners on Aktau port construction

As part of the Kazakhstan president’s directives to develop transport infrastructure and strengthen the transit potential of the Mangistau region, the regional governor Nurdaulet Kilybay announced a $300m seaport investment project with China Zhongyun International as the strategic partner.

Zhongyun International has registered a local subsidiary and is preparing documentation for an investment agreement.

The new port will become a hub linking transport route for China – Kazakhstan – Aktau – Baku – Poti – Europe, which is expected to significantly expand Aktau’s logistics capacity and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a vital transit hub between Asia and Europe.

“The project will help form a new international transport corridor. Its implementation will cut cargo delivery times by seven to 15 days, reduce transportation costs by 18-25%, and create new jobs,” Kilybay said.

Aktau sea port is located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea at the intersection of several international transport corridors, providing the transportation of dry cargo, crude oil and oil products.
