Seatrade-Maritime: CMA CGM and China Communications Construction forge emerging markets partnership

French container shipping giant CMA CGM and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration covering port‑infrastructure development, multimodal logistics, digital innovation and energy‑transition initiatives.

The accord creates a strategic framework that combines CCCC’s large‑scale engineering and construction expertise with CMA CGM’s global liner network, terminal‑operation assets and end‑to‑end logistics capacity via its subsidiary CEVA Logistics.

Cooperation will target markets including Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Both parties will jointly assess opportunities for integrated supply‑chain projects: these encompass logistics corridors, dry ports, inland platforms, container depots and warehouse facilities aimed at strengthening hinterland connectivity for seaport gateways.

CMA CGM and CEVA Logistics may also deliver maritime and project‑logistics support for CCCC’s overseas infrastructure schemes, linking physical construction work with practical cargo‑movement solutions.

This new partnership is built upon long‑standing commercial links between CMA CGM and CCCC subsidiaries. ZPMC, CCCC’s port‑equipment manufacturing arm, has supplied container‑handling machinery to CMA CGM‑controlled terminals since 2004. China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), another CCCC unit, already acts as a terminal co‑partner with CMA CGM at Nigeria’s Lekki Freeport and Cameroon’s Kribi Container Terminal.

Beyond hardware‑focused port and inland‑asset development, the two groups will also explore digital‑technology deployment for smarter terminals and inland hubs, alongside joint work on decarbonisation and energy‑transition solutions for maritime‑related infrastructure..
