Seatrade Maritime: Evergreen orders 14 LNG dual-fuel boxships
Evergreen has placed orders for 14 containerships at two yards in China and South Korea.
At a price of around $2.8bn, the 14,000 teu LNG dual-fuel container ships will be split between China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries. Each shipyard will construct seven vessels.
In March this year, Evergreen Marine contracted 11 24,000 teu boxships with another pair of Chinese and South Korean yards; Guangzhou Shipyard International will build five of the series, and Hanwha Ocean will build six in what was the first order it had received from Evergreen.
To meet the growing demands from its newbuild programme, Evergreen also inked four container ordering agreements to purchase over 90,000 units of containers at a total value around $220m with Dong Fang International Container (Hong Kong), CIMC, Singamas and Guangdong Fuwa Engineering.
Taiwan-based Evergreen currently operates a fleet of 236 containerships.
