Seatrade maritime ICS opening Singapore office

The ICS is set to join other industry organisations such as Bimco and Intertanko in the Southeast Asian city state of Singapore.

The establishment of the new office was revealed by Murali Pillai, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State Ministry of Law & Ministry of Transport, during an opening address at the Safety@Sea Conference on Tuesday morning.

Speaking at the opening of the conference the Minister of State said, “International organisations and industry bodies play an essential role in coalescing diverse viewpoints and catalysing collaboration. One such organisation is the International Association of Shipping, or ICS, which I am pleased to announce will be establishing a regional office in Singapore.

“As a global trade association for shipowners and operators representing over 80% of the world’s merchant fleet ICS advocates for the industry’s interests and facilitates the development of best practices to advance maritime safety,” he added.

The ICS’ new presence in Singapore will be based in the offices of member the Singapore Shipping Association and is expected to be up and running in a few weeks’ time.

The ICS does not generally have overseas offices as it works through its network of global member associations. However, the presence in Singapore will join the ICS’ existing China Liaison office based in Hong Kong.
