Seatrade Maritime: MSC and Shandong Port launch container yard in Qingdao
The launch ceremony of the Shandong Port-MSC Joint Venture Container Yard and the celebration of MSC’s container throughput surpassing 3 million teu were held at the Qianwan Terminal of Qingdao Port under Shandong Port Group.
According to Qingdao port the milestone signifies that it has established a more efficient maritime bridge for advancing regional economic and trade cooperation, injecting strong momentum into the construction of an international shipping hub in Northeast Asia.
To date, MSC operates 17 shipping routes at Qingdao port, covering key markets such as the US East Coast, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Nearly 20 vessels annually call at the port with a single-voyage loading and unloading capacity exceeding 20,000 teu, solidifying MSC’s role as a crucial component of Qingdao Port’s shipping network.
In 2025 MSC continued to increase its capacity deployment in Shandong. Together, they launched several premium routes, including the EMPI East America route, the CLAN Middle East route, and the SAMBAR Southeast Asia route.
“Looking ahead, both sides will further leverage the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to continuously optimize their shipping networks, enhance the connectivity between regional and transoceanic routes, and refine supply chain services,” said Qingdao port.
