Seatrade Maritime: ONE moving to shore power at two major South China ports
Ocean Network Express (ONE) Yantian International Container Terminals and China Merchants Port (South China) Operation Center to jointly develop the alternative marine power.
As one of the key technologies for emission reduction in the shipping industry, ONE’s mobile shore power box uses shore-based power to replace power generation from ship diesel generators, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also lowering noise pollution and fuel consumption during port calls.
ONE’s cooperation with the two major ports in Shenzhen not only achieves seamless connection between ship shore power equipment and port shore power systems but also establishes a full-process standard system meeting IMO’s carbon reduction strategy.
Li Shengyang, Director of ONE Hong Kong and South China, stated: “Achieving carbon neutrality in the shipping industry requires collaborative efforts across the entire sector, and the large-scale application of shore power is a key driver. The cooperation with Yantian Port and Shekou Port in Shenzhen is not only a significant practice for ONE in implementing ESG strategy but also to set a benchmark with standardized operations, promoting green and collaborative development between the shipping and port industries.”
With the comprehensive implementation of the mobile shore power box operation mode at the eastern and western terminals of Shenzhen, ONE vessels calling at Shenzhen Port will achieve zero emissions and low-noise operation during port stays in the future .
