Seatrade Maritime: San Antonio first Chile port to handle 2m teu annually

In 2025 Port of San Antonio became the first port in Chile to handle more than 2 million teu in a single year. 

The volume consolidated 14% growth when compared to 2024, the total cargo exceeded 23 million tonnes with a 3% increase.

The port has two container terminal operators and San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) accounted for 59% and DP World for 41% of the total 2,06 million teu.

“One of the main milestones of the year was the growth in the transfer of teu. For the first time, a Chilean port exceeded 2 million teu moved, reaching 2,060,244 units, up 14% over the previous year,’ said Empresa Portuaria San Antonio (EPSA). 

“The Port of San Antonio closed 2025 with a 3% increase in total cargo transfer, consolidating its position as the country’s main port and reaffirming its strategic role in the development of Chilean foreign trade,” EPSA reported.

San Antonio terminals moved 23. 8 million tonnes of cargo, exceeding the 23.2 million tonnes handled during 2024. San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) accounted for 45% of the goods handled, followed by DP World with 40%, Puerto Panul with 14% and QC Policarpo Toro with 1%.

Containerised cargo grew by 3% (18.2 million tonnes), break bulk cargo increased by 23% (544,522 tonnes) and vehicle unloading rose by 15% with 265,774 units transferred. Meanwhile, liquid bulk cargo decreased by 5%, from 959,407 tonnes in 2024 to 915,662 tonnes in 2025. Dry bulk cargo contracted by 0.34%, handling 4,195,405 tonnes in 2025 and 4,209,539 tonnes in 2024.

San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) handled more than one million teu for the fourteenth consecutive year, while DP World achieved the largest vehicle unloading in the country’s history, with 6,338 units, and Puerto Panul achieved the largest volume of clean bulk unloading in its history, with 3,451,646 tonnes.

“These results reflect the strength of the local port system and the coordinated work with concessionaires, workers and the logistics community, allowing us to strengthen the port’s competitiveness and its contribution to the development of San Antonio, the region and the country,” said Ramón Castañeda, general manager of Puerto San Antonio.
