Seatrade Maritime: Yangzijiang bounces back from USTR fears with $1.9bn in orders

Singapore-listed Yangzijiang Shipbuilding said in a update on 27 September that it had raked in $1.9 billion in new orders so far this year for a total of 44 newbuildings.

The figures are in sharp contrast to numbers the shipbuilder released in late May when it had booked just six newbuildings with total value of $290 million. Orders at the Chinese yard had been hard hit by the United States Trade Representative (USTR) proposed port fees on Chinese-built vessels calling the in the US, as well as uncertainty over tariffs.

In September Yangzijiang secured eight newbuilding comprising four container ships and four bulkers worth a total of $440 million. The contracts including two 11,800 teu container ships from long time customer Seaspan.

The latest orders are due to be delivered between 2027 and 2029.
