SeatradeMaritime: CMA CGM beefs up Batam – Singapore connections

The container line has opened an office on the Indonesian island neighbouring Singapore.

The world’s third largest container line CMA CGM is building its business on the island of Batam, Indonesia.

The shipping line has opened an office in Batam island which sits to the south of Singapore on the opposite side of the Singapore Strait and is home to over 1,300 manufacturing companies.

CMA CGM is launching the twice weekly service Batam Singapore Xpress (BSX) which link to the companies mainline and regional services in Singapore.

The first sailing of the BSX service is scheduled for 27 August.

Earlier this month Manila-headquartered an International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) joint venture secured a 30-year contract to operate and modernise Batam’s main container terminal. PT Batu Ampar Container, a 75% owned by ICTSI, signed a concession with Indonesian state-run PT Batam Terminal Petikamas for the development of the Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT).
