Dubai-based SPM Shipping enters the very large crude carrier (VLCC) segment with the first VLCC acquisition.

The company has disclosed the acquisition and takeover of 302,624-dwt Shirayuki VLCC (crude oil/product carrier) on July 9 at Yanpu, China.

The shipowner didn’t reveal the name of the seller or any financial details about the acquisition of the Liberia-flagged vessel.

With a short social media post on LinkedIn the company said: “We are pleased to announce the successful acquisition and takeover of MT Shirayuki on 9th July 2025 at Yanpu, China – marking a major milestone as we enter the VLCC segment with our first very large crude carrier.”

This acquisition is part of the company’s expansion strategy and reflects, as it said, its long-term vision: to diversify its fleet.

Established in 2023, SPM Shipping owns and operates a fleet of tankers, bulk carriers, and offshore vessels.

While a recent entrant in ship ownership, SPM Shipping is backed by a group with a maritime presence since 1994.

Priya Blue, the green ship recycler in India and Best Oasis, a global cash buyer of ships and energy assets since 2010 are affiliated companies.
