Oman-based Asyad Shipping Company SAOG has reported on Sunday that the second very large crude carrier (VLCC) was successfully received on Friday August 16, 2025.

Announcing the arrival of the latest VLCC, Asyad Shipping Company SAOG said in a filing to the Muscat Stock Exchange: “With reference to the market disclosure announced on 30 April 2025, regarding Asyad Shipping Company S.A.O.G acquisition of two very large crude carriers, the company would like to inform the market that the second vessel was successfully received on Friday, the 16th of August 2025. The vessel has been named “Awabi”, in a gesture that reflects the company’s pride in the national identity and the landmarks of the Sultanate.”

The update follows a previous market disclosure on the Muscat Stock Exchange on April 30, 2025, which outlined the purchase of two VLCCs worth a total of $206m, each with a deadweight tonnage of 308,000.

In a stock exchange filing, the company reported the total transaction value amounting to $206m, with each vessel valued at $103m.

This planned acquisition aligns with the company’s five-year business plan for fleet expansion, the company said, adding that the plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted to reflect market dynamics, enabling the company to capitalize on emerging opportunities in vessel acquisitions.

The MT Qurayyat (2019-built with 307851-dwt), the first of the pair, was delivered on Friday July 11, 2025. The second vessel Awabi is a VLCC, built in 2020, with 307894-dwt.

According to its website data, Asyad Shipping Company’s fleet comprises of 80 vessels, with ongoing plans to grow further across key shipping sectors.
