Ambassador Guilfoyle made special mention to Greek vessels and their crews who saved a huge number of people at sea this year in partnership with this lifesaving U.S. Coast Guard initiative.

AMVER is a living proof that Greek shipping is not limited to its economic power but transforms it daily into an act of humanitarianism.

The International Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Piraeus, was founded on 25 October 1935. Among the members, one encounters -inter alios- shipowners and executives of shipping companies, businessmen and other executives from the maritime cluster, and executives of multinational companies, headquartered in Greece.

This year’s ceremony, under the theme ‘Hope at Sea’ confirmed that Greek shipping is not measured only in ships and tonnage, but – above all – in human lives saved, keeping alive the deepest tradition of seamanship.

Many owe their survival to the courage and deep sense of responsibility of Greek seafarers and the ships linked to Greek interests.
