Splash247: Damen launches hybrid-ready 1,100 teu feeder design

Damen Shipyards has launched a 1,100 teu feeder containership design combining a two-stroke main engine with standard power-take-off and power-take-in capability.

The 150 m CFe 1100 can carry 1,139 teu, including more than 800 teu at a homogeneous weight of 14 tonnes. Its fixed cell guides accommodate 20 ft, 30 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft containers.

In PTO mode, the main engine generates electricity for onboard consumers, including up to 174 reefer connections, reducing the requirement to run auxiliary generators.

The 1,250 kW PTI system provides electric propulsion assistance for manoeuvring or additional speed. Damen lists an economic speed of 15 knots, a conventional maximum of 17 knots and an 18-knot boosted speed.

Space has been reserved in the engine room and aft cargo hold for a later conversion to methanol, including installation of a fuel tank. DNV will verify the fuel-preparation arrangement.

A dedicated battery room is also included, although energy storage is not part of the standard configuration.

The vessel carries Finnish-Swedish 1A ice class and is designed to operate in first-year ice up to one metre thick.
