Splash247: Digital S&P platform launches in beta

A new digital platform aimed at bringing more structure to the notoriously fragmented ship sale-and-purchase market has launched in beta.
UAE-registered maritime technology company e-shipsale.com went live this month with a B2B platform designed for shipowners, buyers and independent brokers trading commercial vessels.
Its beta platform already includes vessel listings, broker and administrative workflows, listing moderation and data-assisted listing creation.
One of the main features is a FAST Listing tool, which allows users to enter a vessel name or IMO number and generate a pre-populated draft listing, reducing the amount of manual input required before a ship is marketed.
Founder Gleb Klimakov told SplashTech the longer-term aim is to convert fragmented vessel information and documentation into structured market data that can be searched, compared and acted upon more efficiently.
The platform is initially focused on improving the mechanics of commercial ship sales rather than attempting to disintermediate brokers, with independent brokers forming part of the intended user base.
Digitalisation of ship S&P has proved harder than in many other areas of maritime, where personal relationships, off-market deals and proprietary broker intelligence remain central to transactions.
A number of platforms have attempted to bring greater transparency and standardisation to the process, but adoption has remained uneven.
