Splash247: Fresh strike hits Montevideo container terminal

Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP), the Katoen Natie-controlled container terminal at Uruguay’s Port of Montevideo, was hit by a fresh 24-hour strike as a labour dispute at the facility continued.

Katoen Natie, the Belgian port and logistics group, owns 80% of TCP, with Uruguay’s state-owned National Ports Administration (ANP) holding the remaining 20%.

The TCP-NELSURY union stopped work from 11pm on Friday.

The terminal continued operating under a government-imposed minimum-service regime during the stoppage, allowing a limited level of activity to continue.

The latest industrial action follows an extended period of labour tensions at Montevideo’s principal container terminal.
