Splash247: IndianOil breaks ground on $25m Port Louis bunker expansion

IndianOil has broken ground on a $25m bunker fuel storage expansion at Mer Rouge in Port Louis Harbour, Mauritius, adding new capacity to the Indian Ocean bunkering hub.

The project will deliver a new 27,500-tonne storage facility within the harbour’s established petroleum zone. Mer Rouge is home to Port Louis’ dedicated oil jetty and storage network, while IndianOil already supplies very low sulphur fuel oil and low-sulphur marine gas oil to ships at the port.

The foundation stone was laid by India’s petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri during a visit to Mauritius. IndianOil said the investment is aimed at expanding its bunkering capability as Mauritius looks to capture a larger share of marine fuel demand from vessels passing through the Indian Ocean.

Port Louis Harbour currently handles around 2m tonnes of petroleum products annually, with the Mer Rouge oil jetty providing around 4m tonnes of annual throughput capacity.
