Splash247: Kamarajar Port opens bidding for 2m teu second container terminal

India’s Kamarajar Port has launched a tender for a second container terminal, putting a $448m PPP development designed to add 2m teu of annual capacity into the market.
The RFQ-cum-RFP covers the design, build, finance, operation and transfer of the terminal. The tender was published on August 20, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for September 18. Bid submissions are due between October 21 and October 30, with opening scheduled for November 11.
Kamarajar Port has previously outlined plans for the new terminal to handle both EXIM and transshipment cargo. The Chennai-area gateway’s existing container terminal, operated by Adani Ennore Container Terminal, has design capacity of 1.4m teu a year.
