Splash247: Kongsberg Maritime acquires Berg Propulsion

Published by Splash247

Kongsberg Maritime has agreed to acquire Swedish propulsion specialist Berg Propulsion in a deal designed to broaden its reach across commercial vessel segments and deepen its aftermarket business.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Kongsberg said the transaction is priced at approximately the same EV/EBITDA level as its own current market valuation and remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Berg Propulsion, headquartered in Gothenburg, designs and manufactures integrated propulsion and electrical systems. The company employs around 400 people and has an installed base of about 4,000 vessels. It generated revenues of around €160m in 2025 after several years of strong growth.

Kongsberg said the acquisition will strengthen its propulsion portfolio and expand its exposure to volume vessel segments where Berg has built a strong position, including general cargo ships and product tankers. Kongsberg is already stronger in higher-value, performance-driven segments.

Following completion, Berg will continue to operate as a separate brand and standalone business unit within Kongsberg Maritime’s Propulsion & Handling division.
