Splash247: Lloyd’s List Intelligence launches vessel risk platform

Published by Splash247

Lloyd’s List Intelligence has launched a new due diligence platform designed to help marine insurers, vessel vetting teams and charterers assess operational risks more quickly by bringing multiple data sources into a single workflow.

The new Vessel Due Diligence module, available within the company’s Seasearcher platform, consolidates vessel histories, inspection records, incident reports and behavioural risk indicators to support underwriting and vetting decisions.

The launch reflects growing demand for more efficient vessel screening as insurers and charterers face increasing regulatory scrutiny and a rising number of ageing, sanctioned and high-risk ships operating in global trades.

According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence, underwriters and vetting teams often spend hours pulling together information from multiple databases before making decisions on individual vessels. The new platform is intended to reduce that manual workload by providing a single view of operational risk.

The module combines information on incidents, inspections, deficiencies, detentions, vessel characteristics, class and P&I status, drydock history and behavioural indicators, alongside fleet screening and historic port call analysis.

Nicola Marlin, chief product officer at Lloyd’s List Intelligence, said the platform had been designed around the day-to-day workflows of marine underwriters and vessel vetting specialists.

“We built it to mirror how underwriters and vetters actually work, so they can make faster, more defensible calls at scale,” she said.

The platform also includes audit-ready decision support intended to improve consistency across underwriting and vetting teams while providing greater transparency behind individual decisions.

The launch comes as operational due diligence has become an increasingly important part of maritime risk management. Beyond sanctions compliance, insurers, charterers and commodity traders are paying closer attention to a vessel’s maintenance history, inspection performance and trading behaviour amid growing concerns over the expansion of the so-called shadow fleet and heightened geopolitical risks.

Lloyd’s List Intelligence has been expanding its portfolio of digital risk and analytics products as shipping companies, insurers and financiers increasingly rely on data-driven tools to support commercial and compliance decisions.
