Splash247: Nigerian Shippers’ Council ramps digital reform
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has launched a renewed push to reposition the country’s maritime sector as part of president Bola Tinubu’s $1trn economy ambition by 2030, placing digital transformation and institutional modernisation at the centre of its reform agenda. The initiative was unveiled at a five‑day strategic retreat in Abeokuta, where directors and senior managers aligned policy, capacity development and operational priorities to strengthen maritime regulation, trade facilitation and port efficiency.
NSC executive secretary Dr Pius Akutah said the council’s next phase will prioritise collaboration, technology and performance. “This theme highlights three strategic imperatives that must guide the next phase of the council’s institutional development. Collaboration… Innovation… Excellence,” he said, adding that transformation requires “stronger collaboration across departments and units, greater innovation in the way we deploy technology and regulatory tools, with an uncompromising commitment to excellence in service delivery.”
The retreat produced a roadmap tied to the NSC’s 2025-2029 strategic plan and stressed practical execution over policy alone, with sessions on technical capacity, regulatory alignment and digital tools.
