Splash247: SITC extends 2,700 teu orderbook
Chinese intra-Asia container player SITC International Holdings is pressing ahead with its fleet renewal and growth plans, returning to Huanghai Shipbuilding for two additional 2,700 teu newbuildings.
The Hong Kong-listed carrier will pay close to $76.5m for the pair, according to a stock exchange filing. Delivery is scheduled from January through to March 2029. The latest order lifts SITC’s 2,700 teu newbuilding programme at the Shandong-based yard to eight vessels. The original contract for four ships, valued at nearly $153m, was announced in August last year. SITC Shipowning subsequently exercised options for two more units in October 2025 at the same price level, followed now by the latest deal.
SITC has been an active customer at Huanghai in recent years. In 2024, the carrier booked ten 1,800 teu vessels at the yard, with deliveries running from 2026 to 2028. That series was priced at around $29m per ship.
According to Alphaliner data, SITC ranks 14th among global container shipping operators, with a fleet capacity of about 186,000 teu spread across 120 vessels. Around 100 of those ships are owned outright.
The company said the newbuildings will support the expansion of its self-owned fleet and help meet growing operational demand across its intra-Asia network.
