Splash247: Three groups line up for Barcelona terminal concession

Three companies have entered the race for a 16-year concession covering the multipurpose terminal at Barcelona’s Príncep d’Espanya wharf.

The Port of Barcelona has identified the bidders as Manipuladora de Mercancías, part of Grupo Mestre, Boluda Maritime Terminals and Andino Inversiones Global.

The three technical offers have been accepted for evaluation.

The 87,425 sq m facility handles non-containerised general cargo, with the existing concession set to expire this year.

The tender allows some mixed container and roro traffic but excludes passenger services and dry and liquid bulk.

The successful bidder will be required to invest around €3.6m in civil works and facilities and provide at least three mobile harbour cranes and six sets of auxiliary cargo-handling equipment.

The concession can be ended early from year 10 if the port needs to reorganise activities in the area, with compensation available for investments that have not been amortised.
