Seatrade-Maritime: EGPN enters container market with shore power-ready feeders

Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading have signed a construction contract for two 1,900 teu feeder container ships with Hong Kong-based shipowner EGPN Shipping.

The newly signed feeders belong to the CSSC subsidiary yard’s self-developed “Honghu (Swan)” series. The 1,900 teu mainstream feeder ship is designed for short-sea shipping and multi-port liner routes.

The vessel design is 172 meters in length with a beam of 27.5 meters, a deadweight of approximately 24,450 dwt, and a design service speed of 18.5 knots. Its high sailing speed and large loading capacity aim to bring economic benefits to owners through low slot costs, according to Huangpu Wechong.

The yard said the ship’s optimised hull design and lightweight structure are an upgrade over conventional vessels in the same tonnage range. The ships will be equipped with complete shore power systems and will fully comply with the latest IMO emission standards and EEDI Phase 3 requirements.

Huangpu Wenchong has established strong reputation in the global feeder market. To date, its high-performance Honghu 1,900 teu series has secured nearly 60 orders, with multiple batches of vessels delivered to shipowners across the globe.

EGPN currently manages a diversified fleet of over 20 vessels in bulk cargo and tanker shipping businesses. As a long-standing strategic partner of CSSC, the shipowner has previously collaborated with the group on newbuilding projects at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry.

EGPN said the newbuilds were a key step to improve its capacity and lay a solid foundation for its entry into the integrated shipping field.
