Splash247: Hamburg automation works hit HHLA volumes and outlook

Published by Splash247

HHLA has cut its 2026 outlook after terminal automation work in Hamburg and major rail infrastructure projects caused greater operational disruption than expected.

The German port and logistics group said extensive modernisation work to automate its Hamburg container terminals, combined with infrastructure works across the rail network, had pushed container throughput and transport volumes below its earlier assumptions.

HHLA now expects container throughput at its Port Logistics division to decline slightly year-on-year, reversing an earlier forecast for significant growth. Container transport is expected to record only a slight increase rather than the strong growth previously anticipated.

The company said the operational impact of the projects had been compounded by the challenging macroeconomic environment, geopolitical uncertainty and the lingering effects of severe winter weather earlier in the year.

HHLA has consequently lowered both its revenue expectations and operating profit guidance for 2026.
