Splash247: HPH Trust rolls out Hong Kong’s first autonomous terminal truck fleet
Hutchison Port Holdings Trust has launched Hong Kong’s first fleet of autonomous trucks, marking a step-change in how container terminals in the city handle cargo and approach decarbonisation.
Already a common sight at other Chinese ports, the six new zero-emission vehicles, now operating at Terminal 4, are designed without driver cabs and run in true mixed traffic alongside conventional trucks. Equipped with AI-driven systems, sensors and precise positioning technology, the trucks are built for round-the-clock, all-weather operations, with integrated obstacle detection and emergency response capabilities.
“The launch of autonomous trucks not only marks a key milestone for the development of Hong Kong’s container terminals, but also signifies a pivotal step in the smart transition of Hong Kong’s port industry,” said Liu Chun San, under secretary for transport and logistics.
