Splash247: Prince Rupert opens CANXPORT export logistics hub

A new rail-linked export logistics facility has opened at the Port of Prince Rupert, adding capacity to handle at least 400,000 shipping containers a year with scope to increase to 750,000.

CANXPORT, formerly known as the Ridley Island Export Logistics Project, connects Canadian export cargo arriving by rail with marine services through the British Columbia gateway.

The project includes three inbound and three outbound rail tracks dedicated to export transloading, alongside road infrastructure designed to increase rail capacity and improve connections between rail and marine transport.

Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) contributed nearly C$50m ($36m) towards the development.

The facility will support exports including forestry products, agricultural commodities and plastic resins.
